Global Battery Alliance (GBA) is the world’s largest global multi-stakeholder organization, founded in 2017 at the World Economic Forum. Its goal is to help create a sustainable battery value chain by 2030. Currently, the GBA brings together several companies and organizations from around the world, including direct automotive industry leaders Audi, Volkswagen AG, BMW, leading NGOs and international organizations such as Alliance for Responsible Mining, Transport & Environment, UNEP, UNICEF. Also among the GBA participants are world-renowned IT solution providers: Microsoft, Circulor, Arxum, SAP.
These are just a few of them. In total, GBA activities are supported by more than 150 Alliance companies.
The Battery Passport for electric vehicles is GBA’s flagship project.
The initiative to introduce the battery passport aims to provide consumers with reliable information on the sustainability of batteries. More specifically, the creation of a battery passport involves tracking the origin of a battery’s materials, recording its carbon footprint and continuously monitoring the battery throughout its life cycle. Regardless of the battery’s origin, a battery passport will be required to confirm presence on the European market from February 1, 2027, which means that the processes to create and obtain one, have already begun. On the GBA website we can see the progress of the Tesla and Audi pilot projects.
The Passport will become a quality identity within a global digital platform, helping to eradicate unacceptable practices in terms of social and environmental responsibility. The Passport and the platform will create a level playing field for companies investing in ethical and sustainable sourcing, making such efforts visible and valued by customers, end users and society.

Global Battery Alliance promotes comprehensive development of new technologies and standards.
To establish uniform battery sustainability standards, the Global Battery Alliance (GBA) has introduced a number of key performance indicators, including greenhouse gas standards, a child labor index and a human rights index. These parameters serve as the basis for reporting, not only for the “battery passport”, but also for other similar documents.
Encryption helps to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of your data. That’s why we impose strict requirements for the encryption standards in our IT software systems and servers.
As an essential aspect of safeguarding secure access to your confidential data, customer and SAP data must be encrypted in all locations wherever it resides.Data centers are localized facilities providing servers and cloud services, operated by SAP and designated hyperscalers.

“Greenhouse Gas Rulebook” is a comprehensive tool that enables industry participants to measure and track greenhouse gas emissions from electric vehicle batteries. This approach facilitates the collection of standardized, verified and comparable data on greenhouse gas emissions associated with battery use.
The Child Labor and Human Rights Indices are innovative metrics that, for the first time in the world, measure and evaluate the efforts of any company or product in the battery value chain. They aim to support the eradication of child labor and promote respect for human rights. These indices provide the opportunity to better analyze the efforts made by companies to support sustainability and social responsibility in the context of battery use.
How can companies adopting automation benefit from a more sustainable battery supply chain?
- Access to new markets and customers looking for sustainable battery solutions.
- Increased brand reputation and customer confidence.
- Reduced costs associated with environmental non-compliance and supply chain disruption.
- Improved access to financing and investment opportunities.
EV Battery Passport is not a limitation, Global Battery Alliance initiatives are a catalyst for innovation in the battery industry. This global solution will track industry developments around the world, helping to set new and favorable standards.
All players in the cycle will have to meet the challenges.
Active participation in the battery passport process is becoming mandatory for all participants in the chain: from battery miners and manufacturers to vehicle manufacturers and all organizations involved in maintenance.
We recognize that the need to maintain a decade of supply chain transparency records raises many questions, such as:
- What processes should be automated and how much detail on how, where and what data should be provided?
- What process starts with automation and accounting?
- How to harmonize data transfer with other companies in the chain?
- What technological basis is needed for this?
- How to train employees in the new processes?
- What material and process certification requirements do we now have to take into account?
The experts at Power Pulse Solutions know the answers to these and other questions, as they are already implementing an automated solution for the mining industry that will comply with Battery Passport regulations.
In addition to automating finance, procurement, human resources, and regulatory and legal compliance on a single platform, the customer receives additional data, such as demographic trends and demand forecasts, in a single analytical environment designed to meet their needs based on SAP or other ERP systems. Power Pulse Solutions’ mission is to simplify complex electric vehicle battery certification processes with a transparent and automated system.
In addition to decision-making efficiency, the customer gains an additional benefit: controllability. By seeing the entire supply chain, from extraction to the finished product, he can be sure that all battery components are environmentally friendly. And this is essential to remain a profitable company in the green business sector in 3 years’ time.
